Yunex Traffic has confirmed a significant long-term investment in its UK operations, announcing plans to relocate to a new, state-of-the-art facility at Bournemouth Airport’s Aviation Business Park. The move represents a pivotal moment for one of the UK’s most established intelligent transport systems providers, marking both a physical and strategic evolution as the business positions itself for the next phase of growth, innovation and global delivery.
Scheduled to take place throughout 2026, the relocation will see Yunex Traffic transition from its long-standing base in Poole, where the company has been a cornerstone of the local technology and manufacturing landscape since 1966. While the move signals change, it is firmly rooted in continuity, reinforcing the company’s commitment to its people, its customers and the South Coast region that has supported it for nearly six decades.
The new facility, located at 1 Viscount Road, has been designed to meet the evolving needs of a modern ITS organisation operating at global scale. Covering approximately 160,000 square feet, the complex combines around 120,000 square feet of high-specification warehouse and production space with almost 40,000 square feet of contemporary office accommodation.
For the first time, Yunex Traffic’s manufacturing, engineering, research and office teams will be brought together under one roof. This consolidation is expected to unlock new efficiencies, support closer collaboration across disciplines and create an environment better suited to the increasingly integrated nature of intelligent transport systems, where software, hardware, data and services converge.
The scale and design of the site reflect the company’s long-term vision. By securing a lease of up to 20 years, Yunex Traffic has underlined its intention not only to invest in bricks and mortar, but to establish a stable platform from which it can innovate, expand and respond to the rapidly changing demands of global transport networks.
At the heart of the new site will be a modern production hall with significantly expanded manufacturing capacity. Purpose-built to support both current and future product lines, the facility will include dedicated printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing, advanced electronic and mechanical assembly stations and a global repair centre for electronic components.
This investment in manufacturing capability comes at a time when demand for intelligent traffic control technologies continues to increase worldwide. With Yunex Traffic products already deployed in more than 65 countries, the enhanced production and logistics infrastructure will allow the company to scale more effectively, reduce lead times and strengthen resilience across its supply and service chains.
Improved distribution facilities will also streamline material flow in and out of the site, supporting higher volumes and more complex product configurations. In an industry where reliability, quality and lifecycle support are critical, these enhancements play a vital role in maintaining customer confidence and long-term asset performance.
Beyond manufacturing, the Bournemouth Airport facility has been designed as an innovation hub, supporting Yunex Traffic’s ongoing investment in research and development. Dedicated R&D space will bring software and hardware engineering teams into closer proximity, enabling faster iteration, deeper collaboration and a more agile approach to product development.
As cities and road authorities look to address congestion, safety, carbon reduction and network resilience, the role of intelligent mobility solutions continues to expand. The new facility is intended to foster the creation of scalable, interoperable technologies that respond to these complex challenges, from adaptive traffic signal control and connected vehicle infrastructure to data-driven platform services.
By creating an environment that supports creative thinking alongside rigorous engineering, Yunex Traffic aims to accelerate the development of solutions that are not only technically advanced, but practical, secure and ready for deployment at scale.
Sustainability has been a key consideration in the design of the new site. The facility will incorporate solar panels and modern, energy-efficient building standards, reflecting Yunex Traffic’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and supporting more sustainable ways of working.
These measures align with the wider objectives of the intelligent transport sector, where technology is increasingly seen as a critical enabler of decarbonisation, modal shift and more efficient use of infrastructure. By investing in a lower-energy, future-ready building, Yunex Traffic is seeking to ensure that its own operations align with the outcomes it supports for its customers and the communities they serve.
Crucially, the relocation is expected to safeguard almost 500 skilled roles, bringing together a diverse workforce of engineers, technicians, digital specialists and support teams in a modern, integrated working environment. The move provides an opportunity to enhance facilities for employees, support new ways of working and attract the next generation of talent into the ITS sector.
While the company will be leaving its historic site in Poole, the move to Bournemouth Airport keeps Yunex Traffic firmly anchored on the South Coast, maintaining strong links with the region’s technology cluster, education providers and supply chain partners.
The location at Aviation Business Park also offers excellent connectivity, supporting collaboration with customers and partners across the UK and internationally, while positioning the business within a growing hub of advanced engineering and innovation.
Commenting on the move, Managing Director Wilke Reints described the new facility as far more than a change of address. He emphasised that the investment represents a promise, to employees, customers and communities, that Yunex Traffic is committed to leading the development of intelligent mobility solutions for decades to come.
By securing a flexible, future-proof home and investing in advanced manufacturing, R&D and sustainable infrastructure, the company is laying the foundations for its next chapter. As transport systems become more connected, data-driven and responsive, Yunex Traffic’s new UK headquarters is intended to be a place where ideas are imagined, engineered and turned into reality.
For the ITS sector, the announcement is a clear signal of confidence in UK-based engineering, in long-term technology investment and in the role that intelligent transport systems will continue to play in shaping how people and goods move in smarter, safer and more sustainable ways.
